Default Vortex Generator Research

Found a cool paper from Mitsu studying the aerodynamic effects of vortex generators.

One thing i want to know is are they designed to only fit on evos or will they work on other cars with slight modification?

I think they could fit any car with modification, I know they sell them not on a strip. But I know they are better for sedans because sedans are way less aerodynamic than say the eclipse or talon.

They can fit any car though they are most useful on a sedan where the angle of transition between surfaces is greater than 12 degrees. It also doesn't seem there is much benefit to using them on a car that goes at legal speeds. In the tests performed here, the air had a velocity of 50m/s which is about 112mph. At this speed the result was a .006 reduction in the cd. The stock cd for an Evo 8/9 is around .36. So the net gain result is 1.6% decrease in the cd at ~112mph. It's fairly significant, but probably pointless on a street car as I doubt the difference is ever noticeable at legal speeds.

They are often used on aircraft and it seems like they would be of more substantial use at those speeds.

Good reply on that Shane. I was thinking of getting a vg for the vr4 but solely for looks. But not sure how it would look on one.

Honestly, I think it would look dumb. Especially to anybody who knows what they are for. Kind of like an intercooler on an N/A Honda.
