I'm a new arrival at this forum and I'm not sure what goes or not, but I recognize it's focus is "media", which usually translates into photos and video. Well, my project over the past couple weeks has been to somehow install a 2G TB neck (air inlet) into my 1G GSX. Today I finally finished the job and the car seems to be running fine. However, I've yet to learn of anyone at all, that has previously performed such an installation and how they did it!

In any case, my GSX has cruise control and I really wouldn't want to lose it -- works exceptionally well (IMO)! So, I had to develop a custom solution and although it has limitations, it does seem to be working correctly. The following photos depict my solution -- quite simply -- a homebrew PCV pipe!

Has anybody else installed a 2G TB neck, and if so, how did you accomplish it?

I thought that was pvc :lol Oh well if it works it works...
So how different are the two necks?

I have a 2g throttle body elbow on my tsi. Install was easy with mandrel bent intercooler piping and a grinder. I know many people that use the 2g setup. Works and looks better than the stock 1g elbow.

Pics of my setup are in the 1g talon tsi awd thread and my profile.

Basically, it's a difference in the entry pipe size. The 1G OD is about 1-3/4", whereas the 2G OD is about 2-3/8". I'm not sure what the 1G enterance to the TB is, but the 2G is about 52mm (if I remember correctly). I ported mine to aprox 60mm to match the TB and cut my own gasket (also smoothed the 2G OE interior edges). Here's a photo of the OE 1G TB neck, and the hose from the OE BOV-mount hardpipe.

If you compare to the earlier installed TB neck photos, you'll see the 2G entry pipe is much larger diameter, in fact, it's constant diameter from entry to TB interface.

Sounds good! Are you also supporting cruise control, or is that not a factor?

Yes, I still have CC. I should just take it out because I never use it LOL.

Looking at your profile photo, your CC layout is different from mine! Is that because Mitsubishi did it differently in later generations, or did you change it?

Mine is stock cc. Maybe they did change it up a little bit, but I have never noticed it before.

I was trying to find a standard solution, but my CC cables were hopelessly in the way of the 2G inlet pipe :(! I ended up using a 60 degree dive PVC corner to try to minimize interference with those cables (as well as trimming 1-3/4" off the 2G inlet).

Look closely at my photos and you'll see the CC difference from yours. I still didn't have enough clearance and so I added nylon spacers and longer bolts to lift the CC cable mounts further above the intake manifold. The end result is only a light contact between the CC cables and the PVC pipe. The factory re-layout shown by your photo completely solves that problem!

Yeah, on my car the cc box is mounted on the firewall as appose to the right front strut location on yours.

I'm glad they changed that LOL. Sorry to hear yours was such a hassle. Glad you were able to get it working.
