Figured I would show off my recent work. car has gone threw to many changes to show everything..
I have owned the car for over 8 years now, I started with all the suspension work, done.. added a nice sound system, done.. couple exterrior mods that I thought looked decent, done.. and the past two years I've been focusing more on just motor. I have recently removed my sound system, and gutted my rear and trunk. I'm redoing it, slowly.
Anyways, this is my recently finished project- turboing it..
Went with something bigger then any kits out there, and had everything custom built. EPM (evopowermods) did all the fabrication work for me, and I can't thank them enough, everything came out perfect. Their experience really came out in all the work..
I used a large garrett 60 trim .63 a/r t3/to4e turbo, polished internals. and thats with a stage 3 wheel on it :)
feedback is appreciated

I did record a little pull in the car.. was only partial trottle, and only partial tune, but you can hear the car opening up under boost. I am aware it's going pretty lean. (tuning isnt finished) Short Pull, partial trottle
Car is parked right now, we're finishing the tuning this friday, so she will be drivin then :)

Nah its a blast. after 8+ years of abuse. im glad it isnt a manual. but i didnt have a choice when i first go it..
car is limited to about 230hp. im at that right now. ill upgrade the trq converter and up the boost a little more. once im finished with the motor. ill be doing atranny swap to something completely different. paddleshifters or a sequential manual. ive been manually shiftin my auto since i got it.. o wells..

Very nice. Have you built the motor? Why did you opt for such a large turbo right off the bat? How much boost do you plan on running?
Demon_ni2
01-28-2009, 10:50 PM
Well right now the motor is stock. Yes I know... eeeekkk... But I have rods on the way already. I'll be ordering pistons here shortly...
I have a .4 bar spring in the waste gate, we logged it at 7psi... For some reason after we tuned it enough to get it home I was spiking to about 15psi. So the car has been parked for the past 3 days till we change 1 or 2 small things. We will be finishing all the tuning Friday night... The weather keeps changing a lot. No leaks of any kind, I have put on about 250miles, and a few hours of idle time. Build went pretty well, I'm glad it left the shop without any issues.
I did op for the larger turbo, because I did not like the idea of using a small t25 or t28 like most other turbo Lancers. They lack top end, and I can say without a doubt, that this car has awesome top end pull. Daily driving I can stay completely out of boost without any trouble. Crossover is kind of messed up still, but we haven't completed tuning. Unfortunately, I was building it more for auto crossing in, this turbo will make it more difficult to control, but next year I should have this car and another Lancer identical to it prepped for time attacks. It’s a bad platform to build off of, but I really do enjoy it, you don't see cars like mine modified as much as I have. Track purpose, show car... Can't really thing of any other way to stay it.
And thank you for correcting my poor grammar and punctuation. I'm rather lazy some times.
EPM has been getting tons and tons of questions about the build on my car, so we will be doing a proper photo shoot sometime in the weeks to come.
Next up, is finishing the tune of coarse, building the block so i can push 10-12 psi without risking the motor. Then ill be doing a DOHC swap from a mivec 4g92. Atleast thats what i want to do next. I like to keep my car a little unique, so i can't really say for sure untill i do it.

so i was bored last night, and i didnt want to study for my exam this morning. so i went out and took a few pictures..
this is what actually came out, (couple are blury, but i liked them that way)
I had to get new tires, so i put the stock 15s back on..
and while i was at it, i took the wing off just to go wingless for a little while.
did all that on saturday so i had to take a few pics

I havent desided yet.. everyone keeps telling me to put it back on.. but without the wing im a little under the radar with the cops.. but im also under the radar of other fun cars, stupid people dont get it confused with an evo without the wing.. :( takes alot of fun out of driving it.. but i can see out my review mirror now...
but no im not sure, ill go wingless for alittle while till i deside on putting it back on.. ill put it back on next saturday to figoure out if i like it on the car with the stock wheels (thats why i took it off)

well a huge majority of all lancer that are turbod are a/t. they are the majority of all the lancers on the street and can take some abuse, after about 230hp you need to upgrade the trq converter.
its been a few weeks now since my car got back to the street and its been alot of fun, still a few small issues with the car that were working out this weekend, but car seems to be handling everything alright, cant wait to start pushing it a little more.

I broke it tonight. no idea whats wrong..
All i can see is that the weird plate on the oil pan (right by the tranny) is pushed out like a V..
No idea why it would be like that.. Car seemed to be running almost fine, other the huge smoke cloud behind me(till i shut it down), and i didnt hear any big bangs or anything. but oil/coolant mix is coming out of the pan.
In the picture is the plate thats pushed outwards.. Couldn't see anything on the inside, but i dont think a rod hit it.. It's pushed out about 2 inchs, and i cant think of any other reason why it would be like that
couple guys i talked to said might be a rod, but i know its a headgasket, its just would a headgasket cause a part of the pan to blow out also? pan doesnt seem to be dented, looks blown out(not sure how to explain it)
ill have to get some pictures tomorrow. when i start talking it apart..
Anyone have any ideas?
Looks like a really clean Lancer. It would look really good with some MM decals on it.
Demon_ni2
03-02-2009, 09:58 PM
well i just broke it an hour ago, need to work on it tomorrow morning to see if i can get a good ideaon what i broke. anyone have any ideas on what i did, based on what my other post says..
Could it be that you broke a rod bolt? It's a crazy idea, but it may be the problem... Other than that, I'd guess it's just a popped HG.
Demon_ni2
03-02-2009, 10:12 PM
Would the head gasket poping casue that little plate on the oil pan to blow out? I'm 99% sure the headgasket poped. But i cant figure out why that plate busted out. Its blown out, not dented or anything like that.. so i cant tell if a rod hit it or if pressure caused it..
Is that possible?
ThunderOZ
03-02-2009, 10:20 PM
I'm almost certain that the headgasket went out if you were still spiking like you used to.
OZ Rally
03-02-2009, 10:21 PM
I think you had the radio a little too loud which caused your combustion chamber to make the rod smash into your oil pan.
Problem solved, just keep the volume down. :runaway
I don't think that pressure could have done it... Why would you have pressure build up in the oil pan? Unless you blew out your rings or something?
ThunderOZ
03-02-2009, 10:23 PM
I guess we won't really know until you take it apart...
Demon_ni2
03-02-2009, 10:30 PM
Darn. I was really hopeing someone would make me feel better by saying it is possible. :(
Ill have to bring the camera so i can take pictures of whatever i broke. trying to find an alldata diagram of my block/pan to see if the rod lines up right or not, if it does ill be certain that i threw a rod or soemthing else.
OZ Rally
03-02-2009, 10:36 PM
Just drop the pan, it's the best way to diagnose what happened.
Demon_ni2
03-03-2009, 09:13 PM
ya.. not gunna drop the oil pan now. i got it on the lift. and there is a hole punched threw the pan. and i have coolant/oil mix also. so it is a rod and headgasket gone bad. im sure i lifted the head and both went out. but anyways.. im getting a salvage motor (350$ from local company)and ill be hopefully dropping my motor out on friday. donno if ill finished and having it all running again on friday because of work and stuff. but hopefully ill get it atleast back in the car.
im kinda lost on the whole taking my motor out from the bottom. but i took all the turbo stuff off today, radiator and intercooling piping. all thats left is taking the wireing harness off, injectors, and tieing off the power steering and a/c compressor. then the rest is Axels and a few bolts underneither the car... im being instructed my one of my mechanics on what to do. he knows im good with cars, but im really nervous now because this is new grounds for me.
If i can do a turbo kit on my car, and all my suspension work, and all my wiring for gauges and sound system. im sure i can do this also. just taking it in stages with some small instructions..
If anyone has a HOW TO.. on my car, or one similar, i would love to look over it.. like i said, ive never dropped a motor out the bottom of the car.

03-03-2009, 10:48 PM
Hmm, I was really looking for a how to like on a Lancer or Mirage or something else close. I'm dropping the motor out through the bottom, and I've never done that before. It's what my mechanics said would be the fastest thing to do. Just figured something explaining everything or most everything would help me not be so nervous doing it. I had alldata at my disposal, so I'm not sure what would be on the service manual that isn't in there. Does it explain how to get the motor out? Most everything else is just unbolting and rebolting stuff.

Ya i'll have the new motor in on Sunday or Monday, depends if i can find a lift that i can barrow that isnt at my work.. But the motor arrived today..
I got it all prepped to drop, just couldn't figure out how to get this one bolt off the block that is used as a ground for the wireing harness, its just before the starter, i broke my 14mm socket trying to get it off.. It was on there real tight, so ill have to finish unhooking the 2 clips on the backside of the motor tomorrow morning i guess. only worked on it for about 2 hours and i got everything taken off, and i only broke a one fitting on my oil feed line.. woops o well.. back to home depot for another one.. :)
Other then that, i have to bring a metal coat hanger with me so i can tie the powersteering pump and a/c compressor out the way, because there just hanging right now..
But I have gotten pretty far without any problems, hopefully she will be running again on monday or tuesday at the latest.
OZ Rally
03-06-2009, 09:23 PM
That's good news!
For that stubborn bolt all you have to do is heat it up a bit and it should come out with no problem. Don't over do it because you don't want to warp it.
Good luck with the rest of your build :thumb

Ok ya.. After beggin my (shop) assistant manager with beer(i work for budweiser also). he is suppose to be letting me into the shop at 1 tomorrow so me and one of the mechanics can swap the motors. Once that is finished ill be pushing it outside and hooking all the accessories back up. Hopefully if it is still light out. ill have it all hooked back up together. But i dont know for sure yet.
Monday morning ill have to take the oil pan off and go over to EPM for them to weld it back up, so hopefully monday ill be starting her back up.
New rear main seal, and new front pump seal will be going in.. and hopefully a port&polished head in a few weeks. but for now. ill be keeping it real easy untill im able to build the block or get another car. because this car is costing me to much money to be a daily driver :) and i love it!
Hopefully tomorrow goes over well, and ill have my car back and running for taking me to and from school.

At least you're making progress.
Demon_ni2
03-09-2009, 08:43 PM
Yes your right, any progress is good.
Today was very frustrating, had to get the steering column connected back up, and i had many issues with it.. Ended up taking me almost 2 hours to do. After that i got the rest of the engine mount bolts hooked up how there suppose to be and i got my a/c reconnected as well. Started to hook up the powersteering and i ran into another issue, the tensioner for the a/c powersteering serpintine belt was connected wrong so it was blocking my from putting the power steering on..
I looked and looked and looked, and i could not find a picture of our accessory belt and the tensioner positioning, the bracket is almost straight but has an angle to it, and i dont know if its backwords or upside down, or upsidedown and backword, i didnt mess with it to much because i couldnt find the tensioner, i may have lost it, i dont know.
anyways. hopefully tomorrow ill be at class and wont be able to work on it, but if i cant get a ride to class then i will be working my my car again from about 7am-noon.. powersteering and alternator i need to get on, then start with the wiring harness..
Normally i would say there all easy things, but I've had so many things get in my way during this process that i have no idea how long it will take me to do everything. Im expecting to have me car running wednesday or friday now.(hopefully friday, because that means i have someone helping me get to school)
Ill update my process with swapping the motors tomorrow evening if i do anything. man i really need my ride back. Every single manager and supervisor is making it extremely hard on my to complete it with such restricting time to work on my car.
Demon_ni2
03-11-2009, 09:14 PM
quick update on the motor swap.
got a little bit of work done today on the car, powersteering and alternator are back on, and i swapped the plugs wires and injectors from my blown motor, and i always swapped a couple weird accessories that i dont know what there called... all i need to do now is hook up all the turbo parts, hook up the wireing harness, and take my oil pan over to EPM for them to weld my oil return line on it. hopefully friday ill be able to turn her back on.
my employees are ANNOYING THE CRAP out of me.. you not done yet? almost finished? whats taking so long? dude, is it suppose to be like this? lol..... anyways.. hopefully tomorrow moring till be productive. if i can knock out a few things fast i might be able to just show up friday and start her up. I HATE MY JOBS!!!
i do have to swap my driver side axle, so that might cause me not to drive her on friday, but ill hope for the best.

K. went to work, got off work a little early and i had time to push her to the parking lot before my manager locked the shop up.. went out to EPM and got my oil pan and turbo manifold back, and i got them both back on the car.. i finished hooking up the rest of the wireing harness and i stopped there. it was pouring rain.. and i was tired of it..
yes it was raining very hard and my stupid self was outside in a open parkinglot installing/reinstalling parts.. :( dedication!.. i kinda cheated.. i used a floor mat plastic thing that u are suppose to lay on the floor when your painting.. i had it over the hood and around me, so the engine bay was dry and i was to... kinda.... i had to lay on the ground a few time on a cardboard box i brought with me,, welll it wasnt big enough so i was still wet as can be..
ill start at it tomorrow morning pretty early.. i have a few things i need to go buy first. but im sure ill be able to get her to start tomorrow before noon.. hopefully the new motor will work ok..
figured i would let her idle for a bit and keep checking for leaks. then see if i can get her to drive the 1 mile drive home from my work. and then check for leaks again. im sure ill have a problem with something.. this is kinda all new stuff for me, never had to do it all by myself before.

Just hope all the bolts are torqued to spec or else stuff will be flying!
Demon_ni2
03-14-2009, 09:55 PM
What bolts, and what torquing? Because hand tight has always worked for me!
Actually, last time I torqued the oil pan to spec like three of the bolts fell out in my driveway while it was idling (luckily nothing leaked). So I stopped bothering following the torque specs for things that aren't moving objects. I just tightened them properly and made sure everything was tight.

Car is running fine again. but no brakes (i need to bleed my brakes) and i can drive her home.. she idled for about an hour.. no leaks no problems.. and i drove around for abit up and down the street near my work without any problems, but no brakes'just e-brake'.. lol.
I did basically everything with my motor swap myself, and thanks to a little outside help to complete everything. Now i just need help with bleeding my brakes and im good to go again!

k brakes r good now and i drove her home.. only thing wrong is that my fans arent working.... not really sure why.. figured it might be a fuse or seomthing so im gunna pull off the fans and rewire it and see if i can figure out where the fuse is.. im only driving a mile or so at a time. so im not worried about overheating.
anyoine know where the fuse is located for the fans? (im sure its in the manual just its raining and i dont want to go searching for it)

Update.. Car seems to be running good now.. no leaks (anymore) and all my old issues have been fixxed..
The only problem i seem to be having now is that my steering wheel is cocked to the right a few inches, and its annoying the crap out of me.. I must of connected it with the wheel turned, so ill have to disconnect and reconnect it to fix the issue.. but the car seems to be running good..
Ill be out this weekend taking pictures with friends, so ill have some new stuff to post up, but the next couple weeks ill be rebuilding my interrior, so hopefully ill be able to get that finished for a cheap price since im doing it all myself.. I appreciate it. Alot of work has gone into my car..
I've done just about most every mod i can, and alot of it i took back off and went to stock because i liked it better that way..
Performance mods like.. Suspension work and Engine work seem to really be the only things i enjoy on the car now, it looks almost stock now, but i enjoy it a lot more without the big rims and everything else thats not really functional. Handles good, great power, and still has a good sound system in it..
Sleeper i guess, but its alot of work ive done, so i enjoy it while i can.
Next on my list to do is finish my interrior, should be interesting looking when im done.
Thanks!

We finished my buddies car(joe) on friday, so we took a few pictures together.. my car is pretty dirty, hasnt been washed in weeks
EPM did all the fabrication work, same people who did my car.
His setup is an evo8 turbo with a 10.5 hotside. (mine is of coarse the big manifold setup with a 60 trim t3/t4)
